Iranian ‘The Badger’ to compete in Bulgaria

Iranian feature ‘The Badger’ is to compete at the 2021 Sofia MENAR Film Festival in Bulgaria.

Iranian feature ‘The Badger’ has been selected to compete at the 13th edition of the Sofia MENAR Film Festival (SMFF) in Bulgaria.

Directed by Kazem Mollaee, the feature film is about a woman named Soudeh who lives with her son in an old apartment.

Soudeh’s 11-year-old son, Matiar, gets kidnapped as she is about to start a second marriage.

After considerable search and effort, Soudeh decides to ask for the ransom money from her ex-husband, Peyman.

How much will this incident challenge her certainties?

Hassan Majouni, Behnoush Bakhtiyari, Reza Behboudi, Vishka Asayesh, Mehraveh Sharifinia, and Gohar Kheirandish are on the cast list of ‘The Badger’.

The flick recently won the Best Narrative film award at the 27th Austin Film Festival as well as the grand prize for the best foreign feature at the 29th Berkeley Video & Film Festival, both in the US.

The Iranian feature is also the winner of a nomination for best film award at the 13th Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival in the US.

The SMFF presents the best films, documentaries and short films of the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa.

The 2021 edition of the Bulgarian festival is slated for January 15-31.
